Well, I thought I’d write a little about what’s been going on at the Isgan house the last week. Our black lab, Gordie, had to have ear surgery on Tuesday, after years (literally, years) of unexplained ear infections. We’ve tried three doctors (including a general vet and canine dermatologist), different diets (prescription ZD, raw, organic), allergy shots, herbs, and nothing was working - not to mention, we had one really pitiful doggie! So, we went to see Dr. Timothy Fleck, a veterinarian here in Noblesville. Dr. Fleck reviewed all of Gordie’s records, and treated Gordie for about six months before we decided to try the surgery. The surgery is messy, and basically enlarges Gordie’s ears, so that more air can flow through, keeping moisture and infections out of the canal.
So, Tuesday, Gordie went in for surgery. He did great, and slept through the night on Tuesday, but Wednesday morning was crying (he sounded like a baby!), so I worked from home in order to keep an eye on him and make sure he did okay through the day. Wednesday night, he must have got a wild hair up his rear, because when I got up Thursday morning, he had removed his e-collar in his kennel, and scratched open the stitches. :( So, I packed him up and took him to Dr. Fleck, where he had to go through surgery again. He’s resting tonight, but James and I have to take turns being home over the next week so that we don’t have another accident. Thankfully, Dr. Fleck gave us some pills to help Gordie rest at night, so hopefully he won’t be awake and scratching at the area. And, he got to come home with his ears tied up like a 1950’s house wife’s hair!
I couldn’t resist taking some pictures of my “little stinky bear” so here you go:
